Description
A polychrome painted advertising desk accessory or pen tray, featuring the iconic His Master’s Voice trademark motif. The piece depicts a three-dimensional figure of Nipper the dog seated at one end, oriented towards a gramophone with a flared horn at the opposite end. The central section is formed as a shallow elongated tray suitable for holding writing instruments. The front of the central tray displays raised cast lettering reading HIS MASTERS VOICE. The rectangular base section under the gramophone features the raised cast word VICTOR. The item is finished with a multicoloured painted surface including cream, brown, gold, red, and green tones. The reverse has a dark, plain finish showing the hollow-cast construction.
Condition report:
The item displays significant age-related wear and widespread paint loss throughout the decorative surfaces. Heavy chipping and abrasions are evident on the figures of the dog and the gramophone horn, revealing the base metal. The raised lettering shows loss of the gold-tone finish. The reverse exhibits surface scuffing and several white marks.
