Lot 72:
Description
A traditional handheld magnifying glass comprising a circular glass lens held in a polished white metal frame. The mount is joined to the handle by a decorative baluster-shaped collar and a stepped metal ferrule. The handle is fashioned from a section of natural curved horn, polished to a smooth finish and displaying dark colouration with lighter interior striations. This style is characteristic of desk and library accessories produced from the late 19th through to the mid-20th century. No maker marks or hallmarks are visible on the metal components.
Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition. The white metal frame and collar show light surface wear, minor pitting, and tarnish consistent with age. The natural horn handle remains well-preserved without visible cracks or chips. The glass lens shows some light surface scratches and dust. The construction remains structurally sound.
