Description
A small wooden casket or chest in the Zanzibar style, featuring hand-carved floral rosettes to the front panels and the lid. The box is reinforced with dark metal strapping, protective corner brackets, and dome-headed rivets. It is fitted with a central metal hasp for a padlock and a wrought metal swing handle on the lid. The chest stands on four integrated block feet. The wood exhibits a rich, aged patina throughout.
Length: approximately 23 cm.
Condition report:
The chest shows signs of age and use, including general surface wear, minor scuffs, and abrasions to the wooden edges. There is a prominent vertical split running through the centre of the lid. The metal hardware exhibits surface oxidation and darkening commensurate with age. The interior shows general wear.
