Description

A contemporary nautical aneroid barometer by the British maker Nauticalia, constructed in the form of a marine porthole. The instrument is housed in a heavy, polished brass case featuring a hinged front bezel secured by two functional screw-down dog fasteners. The cream-coloured dial has an open centre that reveals the internal mechanical movement and is printed with the words SALOON and the maker name Nauticalia. The dial contains two pressure scales: an outer scale measuring in millibars from 940 to 1060, and an inner scale measuring in inches from 28 to 31. It includes traditional weather forecasting terms such as STORMY, RAIN, CHANGE, FAIR, and VERY DRY, along with the instructional notations FALLS FOR WET OR MORE WIND and RISES FOR DRY OR LESS WIND. The barometer is fitted with a black indicating hand and a brass-coloured manual reference hand mounted to the centre of the glass.

Diameter: approximately 18.5 cm.

Condition report:

The polished brass case is in good condition with a high-shine finish. The dial and internal mechanism appear clean and well-preserved. The glass is clear without visible chips or cracks. The instrument appears complete, though mechanical accuracy has not been tested.
