Description
A collection of two antique millinery items. The first is a carved hatpin stand, likely bone or ivory, featuring a central pedestal base supporting a ring with five apertures. It is topped with a finial in the form of a reclining putto and rests on a circular base containing a cork-like material. The second item is an ornate silver-plated pincushion casket with foliate scroll decoration and four scroll feet, surmounted by a domed purple velvet cushion. Both items contain an assortment of decorative pins featuring terminals of faux pearls, glass beads, and metalwork designs including a butterfly and filigree clusters.
Hatpin stand height: approximately 15 cm
Pincushion casket length: approximately 9 cm.
Condition report:
Both items exhibit wear consistent with age and use. The carved bone stand shows surface discolouration and the internal cork base is heavily worn and fragmented. The silver-plated casket displays tarnish and minor surface marks. The purple velvet cushion shows light pile wear. The accompanying pins exhibit varying degrees of oxidation and tarnish to the metal components.
