Lot 149:
Description
This lot comprises a pair of vintage lithographed tinplate wind-up toys of Hungarian origin. The first is a Roli Zoli clown on a scooter, manufactured by Lemezarugyar in Budapest. The figure is depicted in a blue and white polka-dot costume with a conical hat and white ruff, standing on a red three-wheeled scooter. The side of the clown’s foot features the printed mark Lemezarugyar Budapest. It is powered by a clockwork mechanism and is accompanied by a separate brass-toned winding key. The second toy is a walking duck, decorated in bright shades of blue, pink, and yellow with patterned wings. It features an integral winding key on its side and a mechanism designed to provide a walking motion on two flat metal feet.
Condition report:
Both toys are in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and use. The clown on the scooter shows some surface scratches and minor paint loss, with visible oxidation to the underside and the rear axle. The walking duck exhibits minor paint scuffing, though the colours remain vibrant. Both clockwork mechanisms appear to be complete, although they have not been tested for operational duration.
