Description
An eclectic group lot comprising various vintage scientific, technical, and decorative objects. The collection includes a technical drawing set housed in a black textured, fitted case with a velvet-lined interior, containing various steel or nickel-plated instruments such as compasses and dividers. A four-draw terrestrial telescope is included, constructed from brass with a brown leather-covered main barrel and a sliding eyepiece cover. The lot also features a magnifying glass mounted on a metal third-hand articulating stand with a weighted base. A vintage wooden four-fold carpenter’s rule with brass hinges and fittings is present; visible markings on the rule include scales in inches and numbers 10 through 16 and 22 through 26. A mid-century grey plastic stereoscopic 3D slide viewer is included, along with a small film reel on a red card backing. Decorative items consist of an ornate pierced-metal crown surmounted by a crucifix with scrolled foliate designs, a rectangular wooden box featuring a hand-painted hunting scene on the lid and micro-mosaic style inlay, and a smaller inlaid wooden chest containing two green enamel Baoding exercise balls decorated with floral motifs. Further items include a polished red wooden presentation box with an internal mirror and velvet-lined compartments, a hand-painted Russian Matryoshka nesting doll with purple and green floral decoration, and a plunger-style metal table lighter. Miscellaneous collectibles within the lot include a small red die-cast fire engine toy resting on a matchbox, a cast metal mouse figurine with a dark patina, a bundle of wooden rods, a leather-cased instrument set, and a tool with a turned wooden handle.
Condition report:
The items are in vintage condition with age-appropriate wear throughout. There is visible tarnishing and surface oxidation to the brass and metal components. The wooden boxes and rule exhibit minor scuffs, scratches, and wear to the finishes. The leather on the telescope shows surface wear and minor scuffing. The mechanical function of the lighter and instruments, and the optical clarity of the telescope and magnifying glass, have not been tested. The completeness of the technical drawing set is not guaranteed.
