Lot 168:
Description
This lot comprises three distinct categories of vintage and antique collectibles. The first is a rectangular pewter trinket box by the Italian workshop Peltro Nani (Essegi). The piece features distinctive crimped edges on both the box and the lid. The lid is further decorated with a central gilded double-leaf application set within an engraved floral wreath. The interior is finished with a floral patterned paper lining. The base is stamped with a circular maker mark containing the text PELTRO NANI around a central profile head, accompanied by a rectangular ESSEGI MANO stamp.
The second item is a large manual pressure sprayer of copper and brass construction. The cylindrical copper body is fitted with a brass pump mechanism, a spherical plunger handle, and a long curved nozzle. The design is characteristic of early 20th-century insecticide or garden sprayers produced by manufacturers such as Enots or Burmex.
The collection of 17 miniature figures and objects includes a variety of cast metal items. It features two painted lead soldiers in British ceremonial dress representing a Coldstream Guard and a Lifeguard, and two larger unpainted metal theatrical figures. The group also contains an assortment of cast metal animals including a dachshund, pheasant, swan, ducks, and a stag. Completing the collection is a small lead waterline battleship model and a circular commemorative metal plaque for the Mont Cenis Tunnel inscribed PERCEMENT DE LA GALERIE and LES ALPES.
Condition report:
The Peltro Nani box remains in good vintage condition with surface scratches and darkening to the metal; the interior paper lining shows slight discolouration. The copper sprayer shows heavy aged patina and significant verdigris oxidation around the base; the side handle has a repair using black adhesive tape. The collection of 17 miniatures shows varied wear; the painted lead soldiers exhibit significant paint loss and chipping, and the unpainted metal items have a natural dull grey patina consistent with age.
