Description
This lot features two thumb pianos, or kalimbas. The first is a modern 17-key instrument with a blue-stained wooden body and metal tines. A label visible through the central sound hole is marked 17 Key Kalimba, MODEL: CZ-17T, MADE IN CHINA. This instrument is presented in a black hardshell zip-fastened carrying case which includes a metal tuning hammer, two silicone finger protectors, adhesive red and green stickers, a sheet of musical note labels, and a Kalimba basiccourse instructional booklet. The second instrument is a traditional-style circular kalimba featuring a wooden soundboard and seven metal tines. The lower portion of the soundboard is decorated with hand-painted dot-work motifs in concentric circular patterns of yellow, orange, red, and white. The body is constructed from a natural dark-stained material, likely coconut shell. No maker marks are visible on this second instrument.
Condition report:
The blue 17-key kalimba and its accessories are in very good condition and appear to have had little use; the metal tines remain bright and free of oxidation. The circular hand-painted kalimba is in fair to good condition; while the body and decorative paintwork remain well-preserved, the metal tines exhibit visible surface oxidation and rust spots.
