Lot 200:
Description
Bronze sculpture, depicting a Resting Buddha, also referred to as a Thinking or Meditative Buddha. The figure is shown in a traditional contemplative pose, seated on the ground with the right knee raised and the head resting peacefully on crossed arms. The sculpture features a dark brown patinated body contrasted with polished or gilt-finished highlights on the face, hands, feet, and the decorative borders of the monastic robe. The hair and specific panels of the robe are finished with an applied green verdigris-style pigment. The robe is further embellished with incised geometric and floral patterns. The figure displays standard Buddhist iconographic features, including the ushnisha (cranial bump) covered in snail-shell curls and elongated earlobes. An incised mark is visible on the green-patinated section of the figure’s left knee, consisting of several intersecting straight lines forming a stylized geometric symbol. This style of decorative figurine is typical of Southeast Asian production, such as Thailand or Indonesia, from the latter half of the 20th century.
Dimensions: Not provided.
Condition report:
The piece is in good decorative condition. There is minor surface wear to the gilt-style highlights and small casting pits or surface imperfections typical of the manufacturing process. The green finish appears to be an applied surface patina.
