Lot 201:
Description
This auction lot comprises two vintage teddy bears of differing styles and periods. The first bear is a traditional jointed figure crafted from curly golden mohair plush. It features a prominent hump on the upper back, a clipped-fur muzzle with a hand-stitched black nose and mouth, and small dark eyes. This bear has jointed limbs and felt foot pads, reflecting early to mid-20th-century designs often associated with manufacturers such as Steiff or Chiltern.
The second bear is a large, stocky figure in a fixed seated position, constructed from long-pile golden mohair plush. It has a wide, rounded head with a hand-stitched black nose and a distinctive dark brown patch on the left ear. No manufacturer labels, buttons, or tags are visible on either specimen.
Large bear height: approximately 48 cm
Small bear height: approximately 30 cm.
Condition report:
Both bears show signs of significant age and play-wear. The mohair plush on both items displays overall thinning, matting, and surface soiling. The smaller jointed bear shows wear and some staining to the felt foot pads. There are no obvious signs of major repair or structural damage.
