Lot 25:
Description
A continental-style wooden smoothing plane, featuring an integrated horn-shaped handle at the front of the stock. The body and wedge are constructed from a dense hardwood, likely beech. It is fitted with a steel cutting iron and a steel cap iron. The cutting iron bears a stamped mark featuring the word EXTRA positioned below a manufacturer’s crest which is largely illegible due to surface corrosion. This design is typical of 19th to early 20th-century European tool production, resembling examples by makers such as Peugeot Freres and Goldenberg.
Condition report:
In used antique condition. The wooden body shows significant surface wear, including staining, scratches, and various dings. There is visible checking to the wood grain on the sole. The steel iron and cap iron exhibit heavy surface oxidation and pitting throughout. The tool appears complete but would require restoration and sharpening for functional use.
