Lot 26:
Description
An assortment of decorative and functional metalware comprising cast pewter and silver-plated items. The pewter selection includes a large circular charger featuring a high-relief border of fruit motifs including apples, cherries, and grapes; a religious-themed plate with a central medallion and German inscription Ich bin der Herr Dein Gott; a large tray with relief-cast grapevine and wheat ear decoration; a lidded tankard with a hinged thumbpiece and relief scenes of figures in an interior; and various small beakers and shot glasses, some bearing relief coats of arms. Silver-plated items include an oval revolving breakfast dish on a pedestal base with a retractable cover; a circular fruit basket with a tall pierced gallery; and a twin-handled sugar bowl and matching cream jug with relief scrollwork and white-coated interiors. The collection also includes an ornate double-lever cast metal corkscrew, a pair of grape-motif napkin rings, a low chamber candlestick with a ring handle, and several small metal implements including a ladle and knife rests. Marks are present on the bases of several pewter items, though they are not clearly legible for specific maker identification. The presence of German inscriptions suggests a Central European origin for several pieces.
Condition report:
The items show a varied patina consistent with age and use. The silver-plated pieces exhibit surface tarnish and minor thinning to the plating on raised edges and handles. The pewter items display a characteristic dull, aged lustre with typical minor surface scuffs and abrasions. No significant structural damage, large dents, or visible repairs were noted during inspection.
