Description
An assortment of miscellaneous decorative items and boxes, primarily of metal, bone, and glass construction, likely dating from the late 19th to mid-20th century. The collection includes a large rectangular pewter box featuring a high-relief tavern scene with multiple figures on the front panel and a dark aged patina. A heavy cast brass or bronze desk box is included, featuring a hinged lid and a characteristic U-shaped cutout to the front, possibly for stationery or cards, showing a deep brown patina and interior verdigris. Bone-clad items comprise a large rectangular box with ornate pierced brass bands and scrollwork hinges, alongside a smaller chest-form box with brass fittings. Metal containers include a heart-shaped silver-toned box, a rectangular brass box with engraved foliate scrollwork, a silver-toned rectangular box with a basketweave pattern, and a silver-toned cigarette case. Additional small boxes feature onyx, needlepoint, and printed lids. Glassware consists of two dressing table jars with silver-toned lids. Desk accessories and miscellaneous objects include two travelling clocks in green and red faux-leather cases, a candle snuffer with a turned wooden handle and brass bell, a small silver-toned chalice with a cast golfer figure at the base, and a pierced metal potpourri burner with a floral finial. Also present is a carved wooden owl figure with inset eyes, a small brass handbell, a mother-of-pearl inlaid card case, a small wooden hinged box, and a folding fan with cream-coloured sticks and floral decoration.
Condition report:
Items are in various states of preservation consistent with age and use. Visible surface wear, tarnishing, and natural patina are present across metal surfaces. The bone-clad boxes show natural discoloration and some wear to the fittings. Mechanical items, including the travelling clocks, are sold as seen and are untested. Surface marks and small indentations are present on several metal items, and the interior of the brass desk box shows signs of oxidation and verdigris.
