Description

This collection of mid-20th-century British glamour and pin-up ephemera comprises several periodical titles and novelty playing card decks. The magazine selection includes multiple issues of Spick, featuring issue No. 176 with a pre-decimal price of 2/6 and later issues with post-decimal pricing of 25p and 30p. Also present is an issue of Span magazine, No. 246, titled Gals and Glamour, and a larger format Spick and Span Extra. Smaller publications include Mini-Mod Magazine, subtitled Miniature Nude and Pin-Up Photos, and Blonde and Brunette issue No. 19, which contains photographic art studies by Eva Grant. The novelty playing card sets include The Sun Page 3 cards accompanied by a 1979 advance order form for a Page Three calendar. Other decks include Pin-up 54 Cartes a Jouer in a clear plastic case and a Royal Flashes set. The imagery across the collection consists of professional studio and location glamour photography in both monochrome and colour, ranging from classic pin-up styles to artistic figure studies and full nudity. The items are produced via commercial offset lithography on various paper and card stocks.

Condition report:

The collection is in fair to good condition overall, showing signs of age and handling. The magazines exhibit typical shelf wear, including corner creasing, spine stress marks, and light yellowing or foxing of the paper. The playing card decks show varying degrees of use; the Sun and Pin-up 54 sets appear relatively well-preserved, while the Royal Flashes cardboard box shows significant structural damage, including tearing and surface loss. No major moisture damage or significant internal tearing is noted upon visual inspection.
