Description

This two-bottle locking spirit tantalus is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood frame, possibly mahogany or oak, featuring a pivoting silver-plated metal top bar with a central carrying handle. The frame is designed to secure spirit bottles via a side-mounted lock mechanism. The base is reinforced with decorative metal corner plates. Housed within the frame is a pair of matching square-bodied clear glass decanters. The decanters are decorated with a traditional cut glass design consisting of fan or sunburst motifs above a lower register of diamond-cut cross-hatching, with star-cut bases. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or patent stamps are visible on the wooden frame, metal hardware, or glass components.

Condition report:

Both glass decanters are missing their original stoppers. The wooden frame exhibits surface scuffs, scratches, and wear to the finish consistent with age and use, particularly along the bottom edges. The silver-plated metal components show significant tarnishing, oxidation, and wear to the plating, revealing the base metal beneath. No key is present, and the functional state of the locking mechanism has not been verified.
