Description

A fossilised limestone plaque containing two straight-shelled orthocone cephalopods, commonly referred to by the trade name Orthoceras. The specimen is held within a dark grey-black limestone matrix, attributed to the Devonian period and the Erfoud region of Morocco. The primary fossils have been professionally prepared and polished on their upper surfaces to reveal internal anatomical details, including the transverse septa and the central siphuncle. The reverse of the slab is unpolished and shows natural textures with additional fossil fragments.

Overall slab: 15 cm x 13 cm

Larger fossil: 11.5 cm.

Condition report:

The specimen is in good condition with well-defined internal structures and a high-gloss polish on the fossils. The limestone matrix has rough, natural edges as is standard for these prepared specimens. No significant damage or obvious restoration is apparent.
