Lot 78:
Description
A collection of vintage and antique religious devotional objects, primarily composed of cast metalware and mixed media. The group includes a large wall-hanging crucifix featuring a black-inlaid body with cast metal trefoil terminals and a silver-toned metal corpus, bearing the titulus inscribed INRI. Also included is an ornate cast brass cross decorated with scrollwork, a central IHS monogram, and an applied figure of a descending dove representing the Holy Spirit.
The assortment further comprises a wall-hanging crucifix with a dark-stained wooden body and gilt-toned metal corpus, a stylized cast metal plaque depicting the Madonna and Child in a bronze-toned finish, and a small silver-toned standing crucifix mounted on a spherical globe-shaped base. A miniature Nativity scene features silver-toned figures of the Virgin Mary and infant Jesus on a wooden backdrop with a faux-marble base, including an incised metal nameplate. Additional items consist of a small cast brass crucifix with trefoil ends, a slender white metal crucifix, a detached silver-toned corpus, and a small arched plaque with a marbled yellow celluloid ground inset with a white metal medallion of the Virgin Mary. The metal components exhibit various finishes, including gilt, silvered, and patinated base metals.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition overall. There is visible surface wear, tarnishing, and aged patina across the metal components consistent with age and handling. One silver-toned corpus is currently detached from its original cross. Minor surface scratches and small areas of oxidation are present. The composite and wooden elements show light edge wear.
