Lot 82:
Description
This lot comprises two vintage medical instrument sets of British manufacture. The first is an Accoson Dekamet Mark 2 mercurial sphygmomanometer contained within an integral folding metal case with a brown crinkle-finish. The interior of the lid features a glass mercury column with a printed scale graduated from 0 to 300 mmHg. The body is marked with an arched Dekamet name above a circular Accoson logo, including the text Made in England, Mk 2, and B.S. 2744. The set includes a grey fabric inflatable cuff, a black rubber inflation bulb, and a modern dual-head stethoscope. The second item is a cased medical aspiration or injection apparatus, likely intended for procedures such as artificial pneumothorax. The set features nickel or chrome-plated metal components, including a large-bore syringe with a T-handle and a three-way stopcock valve assembly with a conical brown mount. The lid of the fitted black textured wooden case holds a selection of approximately eight needles and cannulas of varying gauges and lengths. The interior is lined with red velvet and contains several lengths of orange rubber tubing and a metal clamp.
Condition report:
The sphygmomanometer is in good aesthetic condition with minor signs of clinical use; the glass column remains intact. The aspiration apparatus appears well-maintained with the metal components showing little wear. The orange rubber tubing shows signs of significant ageing and appears brittle. These items are sold as historical curiosities and collectibles only; they have not been tested for mechanical function or clinical accuracy. Potential buyers should be aware of the presence of mercury in the sphygmomanometer.
