Lot 1:
Description
This cast bronze sculpture is an Animalier study of a tethered pig, executed after a known model by the French sculptor Isidore Jules Bonheur. The animal is portrayed with realistic anatomical precision, shown standing with its snout open as if vocalising. Its rear right leg is tied to a small, low stump by a short length of textured rope. The pig stands upon an integral, rectangular bronze base cast to simulate uneven, rocky terrain. The entire bronze is mounted on a separate, oval-shaped plinth made of polished black stone, likely granite or marble. The piece is finished with a deep brown patina. There are no visible artist signatures, foundry stamps, or edition numbers discernable from the provided images.
Approximately 18 cm x 28 cm x 14 cm.
Condition report:
The sculpture is in good overall condition. There are visible areas of light-coloured surface oxidation and rubbing to the patina, most prominent around the snout, eyes, and lower limbs. The bronze base and stone plinth show minor surface wear and dust accumulation consistent with age and display. The stone base appears to be free of significant chips or cracks.
