Description
Attributed to Homco, this vintage cast iron figurine depicts a reclining cow, likely intended for use as a doorstop or decorative ornament. The figure is realistically modelled in a resting pose with its legs tucked beneath its body. The piece features a two-part hollow construction, joined by a central internal threaded bolt visible on the underside. It is hand-painted in a black and white spotted pattern typical of a Holstein or Friesian breed, with pink tones to the muzzle and blue-grey horns. The exterior surface is textured to simulate hide. There are no visible maker’s marks or factory stamps.
Length: 30 cm (12 inches).
Condition report:
The figurine is in an aged, \'as found\' condition. There is significant and widespread wear to the painted surface, including extensive flaking, chipping, and areas of complete paint loss. Surface oxidation and rust are present where the cast iron is exposed, particularly on the white sections and the interior cavity. The tail is a short stump; it is unclear if this is the original design or represents a historical loss.
