Description

This lot comprises two vintage mechanical office instruments of European manufacture. The first item is an Addimat stylus-operated mechanical adding machine. It features a light green painted metal housing with seven vertical columns. Each column contains a numeric slide with digits 1 through 9, finished in alternating cream and grey. A red reset lever is positioned at the top left. The faceplate is marked with the brand name addimat in a stylized lowercase font and the words adding machine. The second item is a Hema rotary pencil sharpener, identified on the original packaging as a Bleistiftspitzautomat. The body is constructed from mottled dark brown Bakelite or a similar phenolic resin, featuring an embossed Hema script logo on the top surface. It has a chrome-plated front assembly with a spring-loaded gripping mechanism and two release levers. The metal crank handle is fitted with a textured black plastic grip. The sharpener is accompanied by its original yellow and white cardboard box, which is marked Hema and indicates the piece was Made in Germany.

Addimat: 12.5 cm wide

Hema Sharpener: 10.5 cm high.

Condition report:

The Addimat adding machine is in good vintage condition with minor surface scuffs and light wear to the painted finish consistent with age. The numbering on the slides remains clear and legible. The Hema pencil sharpener is in fair to good condition; the Bakelite housing is intact without cracks, though the metal components show surface oxidation and accumulated dust. The original cardboard box is in poor condition, exhibiting heavy wear, significant tearing, and missing top flaps. Mechanical functionality for both items has not been tested.
