Lot 135:
Description
This lot comprises an extensive collection of varied vintage items, militaria, and tools. Highlights include a Royal Air Force Signals Unit wooden wall plaque featuring a hand-painted and applied crest with the inscriptions SIGNALS UNIT and AIR FORCE surrounding a central eagle motif surmounted by a crown. A black rectangular tin contains a collection of large commemorative medals in bronze and gilt finishes; one bronze example depicts a winged figure with a sword, while another features an inscription beginning with THE ROYAL. A small framed humorous line-drawing print is present, identified by the text GLEN BAXTER at the top. Decorative items include a ceramic wall-hanging mask of a female face adorned with grape clusters in the Bacchus style, and a heavy cast-metal figurine of a seated man in a contemplative pose on a rectangular base. Trinket containers include an ornate silvered-metal circular box with an embossed scrolling lid on a red velvet base, and a small wooden box with a hand-painted floral lid. Tools and instruments consist of multiple wooden folding rules and straight rulers with brass hinges, a cased dial gauge with a metal stem in a red presentation box, and a red-painted hand-cranked mechanical tool. Additional items include a mouth organ with metal cover plates, a vintage black and white photograph of a large multi-decked vessel, a wooden darning mushroom, a long wooden handle, a specimen of unpolished green mineral, and a blue presentation box containing a decorative metal letter opener.
Condition report:
The items are in varied vintage condition consistent with age and use. Patina, oxidation, and surface wear are present on metal components. Wooden items show minor scuffs and surface marks. The ceramic mask appears intact but may have fine surface crazing. Paper and photographic items show age-related toning and minor edge wear. The mechanical status and accuracy of the measuring tools, gauge, and hand-cranked tool are untested.
