Description

A lot containing two distinct items of British footballing interest. The first is a Topical Times Panel Portraits Album of Star Footballers, published circa the late 1930s. This large-format album contains various monochrome and hand-tinted photographic supplements issued by the Topical Times sports weekly. Featured players include Stanley Cullis (Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.), Thomas G. Jones (Everton F.C.), Robert T. Beattie (Preston North End F.C.), Bert Sproston (Leeds United F.C.), Wilfred Manson (Middlesbrough F.C.), Joseph S. Foxall (West Ham United F.C.), C. Wilson Jones (Birmingham F.C.), and J. Nicholas (Derby County F.C.). The portraits are held in corner mounts on heavy paper pages. The second item is The Official England Squad Medal Collection 1998, produced for Sainsburys for the 1998 FIFA World Cup. This fold-out card album contains a series of base-metal medals depicting members of the England squad and manager Glenn Hoddle, including David Beckham, Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, and David Seaman. It includes an introductory text section titled England Through and Through featuring quotes from former players.

Topical Times Album height: approximately 38 cm

Sainsburys Album height: approximately 30 cm.

Condition report:

The Topical Times album cover exhibits significant age-related wear, including heavy staining, foxing, and creasing to the outer card. Internally, the pages show foxing and some wear to the corner mounts, although the portraits themselves remain largely well-preserved. The Sainsburys medal album is in good condition with some minor shelf wear and light creasing to the spine. The medals are bright and intact within the folder.
