Lot 172:
Description
This collection features a diverse range of antiques, technical instruments, and decorative items. Technical highlights include a blue cylindrical ROKA calculating pencil case of German origin, inscribed with DER RECHNENDE FEDERKASTEN MIT LINEAL UND MASS, and a boxed Olympic brand miniature fishing reel. Musical items include two harmonicas, one in a blue plastic case, and a pair of black castanets with red cords.
The lot includes a large coopered wooden tub with metal bands and a handle, alongside a vertical folding wooden rule marked in imperial units. Storage is provided by multiple wooden boxes, including one designed as a stack of books with spines marked I to IX in Roman numerals. Decorative elements comprise a carved wooden figure of a reclining man on a green base, a framed miniature landscape painting featuring a windmill, and a gold-toned three-cup candlestick holder in the form of gnarled branches.
Further items include two blue and white cloisonné-style spheres, a chinoiserie-style saucer, an acrylic-encased relief of the Great Wall of China, a brown leather drawstring pouch, and a small paintbrush. Small metalwares such as a commemorative spoon, a stylus, and medallions are also present.
Condition report:
The items are in varied estate condition showing signs of age and previous use. The wooden tub displays surface wear and oxidation to the metal bands. Technical items such as the ROKA case and harmonicas have minor surface marks. The packaging for the Olympic reel shows some creasing and wear to the card backing. The candlestick holder has some thinning to the gold-toned finish. All pieces exhibit surface dust and light abrasions consistent with long-term storage and handling.
