Description

Official commemorative participation medal issued for the XIII Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1986. This bronze medal was manufactured by Matsudo of Motherwell, Scotland, as indicated by the maker’s mark within the presentation case. The obverse features a central pentagonal border containing a depiction of St Edward’s Crown above the inscription XIII COMMONWEALTH GAMES EDINBURGH SCOTLAND, flanked by the date 1986. The outer legends read COMMEMORATIVE and MEDAL. The reverse depicts a detailed relief of Edinburgh Castle on its rock with thistles and floral motifs along the bottom edge. The medal is housed in its original black hinged presentation case with a cream satin-lined lid bearing the manufacturer’s logo in gold foil.

Diameter: approximately 50mm.

Condition report:

Very fine condition with an attractive dark bronze patina. Notable green verdigris is present in the recessed areas of the obverse design, particularly around the central shield and crown. The presentation case exhibits light surface scuffing to the exterior but remains in good functional condition.
