Lot 31:
Description
This collection comprises various vintage decorative objects and animal figurines with a rural theme. Included is a large oval toleware-style metal tray with a central hand-painted scene of a cockerel and a hen in a grassy field against a wooden fence. The tray is finished with a deep red rim and two integral cutout handles. Also present is a substantial cast metal figurine of a bull or ox, finished in a dark brown tone. A brass-toned metal model depicts a single horse in harness pulling a four-wheeled open cart. The group includes a glazed ceramic character jug of a smiling gentleman in a tan straw boater with a green band, styled after mid-20th-century British pottery. Further ceramic items include a small black and white cow and a small terrier-type dog on a circular green base. A black-finished figural bookend depicts a seated male figure leaning over a desk, and a standing figurine of a farmer in traditional dress appears to be made from a wood-effect composite or resin.
Tray width: 51cm
Farmer figurine height: 20cm
Bull figurine height: 15cm.
Condition report:
The items are in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age. The toleware-style tray shows minor surface scuffing and small areas of paint loss, particularly along the outer red rim. The cast metal bull exhibits a textured surface typical of cast iron. The ceramic figurines and character jug appear to be free of significant chips, cracks, or restoration. The brass-toned horse and cart and the figural bookend show light surface wear but remain structurally sound.
