Description
A hand-painted ceramic character jug produced by Roy Kirkham Pottery, depicting a coal miner in a kneeling pose. The figure is modelled wearing a grey flat cap, a green shirt, and a black waistcoat over light-coloured trousers. He carries a pickaxe in his right hand and holds a raised lantern in his left hand, resting on a base designed to resemble a rocky outcrop. The handle is fashioned in a curved cream-coloured form extending from the figure’s back. The base displays an impressed COAL MINER mark and a circular printed backstamp for Roy Kirkham Pottery, featuring a lion rampant and the text MADE IN STAFFORDSHIRE Hand Painted. There is also a small hand-painted black decorator mark 13 on the underside.
Height: approximately 15 cm.
Condition report:
The item shows a visible repair to the handle where it joins the upper part of the figure\'s back. Aside from this restoration, the jug appears to be in good condition with vibrant colours and an intact glossy glaze.
