Lot 33:
Description
A vintage walking cane featuring a tapered shaft constructed from palm wood, also known as porcupine wood, displaying a dense linear and mottled grain pattern. The handle is carved from a dark, polished hardwood into the stylised form of a wading bird, such as a curlew, characterised by a long, tapering curved beak. The join between the handle and shaft is decorated with two light-coloured wood inlay bands, and the bird’s head features a circular wood inlay eye with a dark centre. The cane terminates in a black rubber ferrule at the base. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The item is in good used condition with light surface wear and minor scuffing to the handle consistent with age and regular use. The rubber ferrule shows typical signs of wear to the base.
