Lot 41:
Description
A large-scale, handcrafted wooden model of a traditional four-wheeled horse-drawn farm wagon. This artisan-made piece features a rectangular wagon bed with a removable slatted wooden rack. The construction is primarily joined and carved wood, utilising wooden pegs, small nails, and metal bolts. The wagon is equipped with four spoked wooden wheels and an articulated front axle assembly to allow for steering. Attached to the front is a pair of hinged wooden shafts with metal hardware, designed to accommodate a two-horse team. The metal components include hinges, loops, and bracing. A small white rectangular sticker with the characters L . 139 is present on the front left corner of the wagon bed, likely an auction house or inventory reference. No other maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The item is in a well-weathered, barn-find condition. The wooden surfaces show significant age-related wear, including an accumulation of dust, staining, and traces of old white or grey paint residue. The metal hardware exhibits surface oxidation and rust throughout. The model appears largely complete, though a modern-style replacement chain has been attached to one of the shafts. There is no original packaging present.
