Description

A French style Rococo Revival gilded brass mantel clock dating to the late 19th century. The ornate cast metal case is decorated with C-scrolls, acanthus leaf motifs, and floral decorations. It features a prominent pierced scrolling finial atop a domed hood, flanked by scrolled shoulders, while the lower section displays a relief panel depicting two putti flanking a central cartouche. The clock stands on a flared decorative base with four scrolled feet. The circular white enamel dial is set with black Roman numeral hour markers and features a decorative pierced gilt-metal centre with ornate pierced hands. Two winding apertures are present at the 4 and 8 o clock positions. The mechanical twin-train spring-driven movement strikes on a bell. The backplate is stamped with the serial number 6380 over a 1 and includes an illegible circular maker stamp.

Height: approximately 45 cm.

Condition report:

The case shows surface wear, oxidation, and tarnishing consistent with age. There are areas of wear to the gilded finish. The white enamel dial appears intact with no significant chips or cracks. The movement appears complete with bell and pendulum suspension attached, though its working status is untested and it is sold as seen.
