Description
A small Chinoiserie style lacquered wooden jewellery chest or miniature cabinet featuring a stepped profile. The piece is finished in a dark blue to black lacquer ground, decorated with polychrome hand-painted depictions of goldfish and koi swimming amongst yellow lotus flowers and green lily pads. This scene extends to the side panels. The configuration consists of two drawers over a double-door cupboard, supported by short integrated bracket feet. It is fitted with brass hardware, including decorative hinges and drawer pulls shaped as stylized fish. The interior of the lower cupboard is lined with a red, floral-patterned fabric. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are present.
Condition report:
Signs of wear are present, including chips to the lacquer on the left front edge and the rear feet. The back panel shows scuffing and white surface residue. The brass hardware shows light oxidation and tarnish. The interior lining remains intact.
