Lot 56:
Description
This lot comprises an assortment of brass and metalware objects of various decorative and functional types. Included is a tall, slender-necked ewer with a handle, an ornate reticulated bowl containing a galloping horse figurine, and a small oil lamp with a wick holder. The collection also features two large decorative skeleton keys, a circular hinged metal box with a front latch, and a heart-shaped lidded box. Scientific interest is represented by two brass instruments, including a circular compass with an internal mirror and a secondary brass surveying-style instrument. Additional items include a large brass walnut-shaped container, a small spherical fruit-shaped ornament, and a set of serving utensils with dark wood handles. Most pieces are constructed from cast or pressed brass and copper. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are clearly visible from visual inspection.
Ewer: approx. 23 cm (H)
Reticulated bowl: approx. 25 cm (W)
Large skeleton key: approx. 20 cm (L).
Condition report:
The items generally exhibit a natural aged patina and surface tarnish consistent with historical use. Visible signs of wear include surface scratches, minor indentations, and areas of oxidation, particularly on the larger skeleton key. The hinged mechanisms on the boxes and instruments appear functional. No significant structural damage is observed, though internal components of instruments have not been tested.
