Description
A collection of four vintage aneroid barometers, primarily featuring nautical ship’s wheel designs. The group includes a large Shortland SB weather station housed in an eight-spoke polished wood wheel case with a brass bezel. The brushed silvered dial incorporates an aneroid barometer measuring in both inches and millibars, a hygrometer for percentage humidity, and a thermometer calibrated in degrees Centigrade. It displays the Shortland SB winged logo and is marked British Made Instrument and Made in England. Also included is a circular barometer set in a dark-stained wood frame with a brass hanging loop and exposed central mechanism. A third item is a six-spoke carved oak ship’s wheel barometer with a chrome or nickel-plated bezel and silvered dial. The final item is a mahogany-finish circular barometer base with six protruding brass spokes and a cream dial marked Made in England.
Large barometer: Approximately 30 cm diameter
Small circular barometer: Approximately 11 cm diameter
Oak wheel barometer: Approximately 18 cm diameter
Brass spoke barometer: Approximately 15 cm diameter.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of age-related wear and patination to the wooden cases and metal bezels. The large Shortland SB barometer is missing the decorative wooden tip from the bottommost spoke. The glass covers are intact. All mechanical movements and secondary instruments are untested for accuracy or functional status.
