Lot 75:
Description
A liquid-damped sighting compass by Freiberger Prazisionsmechanik, featuring a black plastic composite body. The instrument incorporates a hinged lid with a circular mirror and vertical sighting hairline. It is equipped with a rotating outer bezel graduated from 0 to 360 degrees. The internal floating yellow dial displays dual scales, including an inner ring numbered 4 to 64 representing hundreds of mils, and a red magnetic needle. The housing base features a white direction-of-travel arrow and is marked with the letters FB within a square border at the bottom centre. The compass is housed in a fitted black leather-style carrying pouch with a metal press-stud.
Length (closed): 80mm.
Condition report:
The compass appears functional with clear sighting optics. A visible air bubble is present within the liquid capsule, which is typical for vintage liquid-damped instruments. The body and case show minor surface wear and scuffing consistent with field use.
