Description

This Chinese export jewellery cabinet is of rectangular form, constructed from hardwood with a dark reddish-brown stain and varnish finish. The twin-door front opens to reveal three internal drawers lined with red velvet. The exterior is decorated with pierced and carved translucent pale green stone panels featuring floral and foliate motifs, set into the doors and side panels. These panels are secured by ornate pierced brass mounts at the corners and centres. The piece is fitted with a traditional brass pin-locking mechanism and topped with a ruyi-head shaped swing carrying handle. The cabinet stands on four bracket feet reinforced with decorative brass caps. The brass drawer pulls feature simple chased decorations. No maker’s marks or reign marks are present on the body, base, or interior.

Height: approximately 18 cm

Width: approximately 14 cm.

Condition report:

The cabinet is in overall fair to good condition. There is visible wear to the wood surface finish, with some lifting and an orange-peel texture to the varnish on the side panels. The brass mounts show a natural aged patina and moderate tarnishing. The carved stone panels appear intact without significant cracks or losses. The interior velvet lining shows light signs of use but remains well-attached.
