Description

A small decorative oval dish executed in a painterly studio enamel style, dating from the mid-20th century and likely of British or European origin. The interior is decorated with a vibrant abstract composition featuring a palette of cobalt blue, crimson, amber, and golden-yellow colours. The design includes thick, textured applications of white enamel that provide highlights and depth, suggesting a stylized floral or botanical theme. The enamel is fired onto a metal base, likely copper or brass, which is visible at the gilded-tone rim. The reverse is finished with a mottled dark blue counter-enamel. No maker’s marks, signatures, or hallmarks are visible; two pale irregular marks on the underside are identified as surface residue from former adhesive labels.

Length: approximately 7.5 cm.

Condition report:

The item is in good overall condition. The enamel on the interior is well-preserved with some minor surface scratches and inherent firing bubbles consistent with artisanal production. The metal rim exhibits some tarnishing and light wear. The underside shows some adhesive residue as noted, but the counter-enamel remains structurally sound without significant chips or losses.
