Description
A collection of assorted decorative containers and boxes of various materials and styles. Included is a large rectangular jewellery box with an embossed brown leather surface, featuring a central heraldic crest depicting a lion rampant and ornate corner mounts in relief. Also present is a vintage woven box purse or vanity case with leather trim and a top handle, resembling designs by Eunice Shirk. The grouping contains several wooden trinket boxes, notably one featuring a printed lid with a Victorian stagecoach scene, another with a marquetry leaf motif, and a small light-wood box hand-painted with floral sprays and the French text les petits ruisseaux font les grandes rivières. Further components include a cylindrical silver-toned metal container with chased figural reliefs, a circular wooden box on three peg feet decorated with geometric brass tacks, and a small red velvet box topped with a gold-tone tassel. A plain rectangular metal box is also included.
Large leather box: 36 cm x 28 cm x 12 cm.
Condition report:
The collection displays signs of age-related wear throughout. The leather-covered box shows scuffing and abrasion to the edges and raised embossed elements. The woven case has minor fraying to the fibres and wear to the leather handle and trim. The wooden boxes exhibit light surface scratches, some fading to the printed and painted designs, and minor nicks to the corners. The metal canister and rectangular box show surface oxidation and tarnishing consistent with age. The red velvet box shows slight compression to the pile.
