Lot 123:
Description
This lot comprises two contemporary weather instruments designed in a traditional maritime style. The first is a twin-dial wall-mounted weather station consisting of an aneroid barometer and a clock. The barometer dial is inscribed Cavendish and includes weather indications for Stormy, Rain, Change, Fair, and Very Dry, with pressure scales in both millibars and inches. The clock features a silvered dial with black Roman numerals and baton hour markers, with black hands and a red sweep second hand. Both units are set into circular brass-effect cases and mounted on a rectangular mahogany-stained wooden plaque with decorative brass corner brackets. The second item is a large Saloon aneroid barometer by Nauticalia. It is constructed with a heavy polished brass porthole-style case, featuring a hinged front bezel secured by two screw-down latches. The cream dial indicates weather conditions and pressure in millibars (940 to 1060) and inches (28 to 31). The central aneroid mechanism is visible through a circular aperture in the dial.
Wall station plaque: 34.5cm x 15cm
Porthole barometer diameter: 23cm.
Condition report:
General surface wear and light tarnishing are visible on the brass cases of both instruments. The wooden plaque shows minor scuffs to the corners and edges. The mechanical and electronic functions of the clock and barometers have not been tested.
