Description
A large collection of vintage British comic postcards, commonly known as saucy seaside postcards, dating from the mid-20th century, approximately 1930s to 1960s. The assortment includes numerous examples from prominent publishers, most notably Bamforth and Co. Ltd. of Holmfirth, featuring the distinctive artistic styles and humorous caricatures associated with the genre. Visible artist signatures include Trow and Fitz, with several cards executed in the iconic style of Donald McGill.
The illustrations are printed in colour on cardstock and typically feature bawdy humour and double entendres. Captions include phrases such as Every minute I thought Id be hurled into Maternity!, What did you say I should do with my little flute???, and Bottoms up and into the drink!. The cards are individually housed in clear plastic protective sleeves.
The collection is presented in a stack measuring approximately 11.5cm (4.5 inches) in height, containing an estimated 100 to 150 individual cards.
Condition report:
The collection is in very good vintage condition. The individual plastic sleeves have effectively preserved the cardstock, resulting in vibrant colours and minimal edge wear. There are no obvious signs of significant damp damage, heavy creasing, or fading.
