Lot 153:
Description
This collection comprises a variety of decorative objects primarily of Chinese and East Asian influence. Included is a large oval black lacquer plaque with shell or soapstone inlay depicting figures in a landscape with pagodas. A carved hardwood vessel is fashioned in the form of a human head. The group contains two boxed sets of Baoding meditation balls: one pair with a polished chrome finish in a green patterned box, and another pair featuring gold-coloured celestial motifs on a dark ground in a blue silk-covered box. There is a rectangular wooden box with an inset lid panel depicting two ceremonial elephants in traditional dress. Also present is a boxed presentation set of decorative chopsticks with floral bands, and a set of six gilt-metal filigree ornaments with turquoise-coloured beads. The collection is further comprised of a paper and bamboo folding fan with a peacock design, two pale green hardstone carvings including a figure of an immortal, a brass handbell with a wooden handle, and a dark-toned Jin Chan money toad carving. A label with Chinese characters is visible on the blue Baoding ball box, though it is not clearly legible.
Oval plaque width: approx. 430 mm
Elephant box length: approx. 250 mm.
Condition report:
The items are in generally good decorative condition. Minor surface wear, light scratches, and dust accumulation are present, consistent with age and previous display. Some minor fraying to box textiles and light oxidation to metal components.
