Description
A mid-20th-century Chinese-style jewellery chest constructed from a reddish-brown hardwood featuring decorative box-jointed corners. The rectangular chest comprises a hinged lid opening to a single top compartment, situated above two full-width pull-out drawers. The exterior is adorned with elaborate brass hardware, including stylized corner brackets and an ornate front latch mechanism with engraved floral motifs. The drawer pulls consist of bail handles on decorative backplates stamped with architectural and landscape scenes. The lid is centered with an inset circular brass medallion featuring an openwork geometric fretwork design. Circular swing handles are mounted to each side for transport. The interior of the top compartment and both drawers are lined with a red silk-style brocade fabric woven with leaf and floral patterns. No maker marks, labels, or reign marks are visible on the exterior or interior of the piece.

Condition report:
The chest is in good vintage condition. The wooden exterior displays minor surface scratches, scuffs, and small indentations consistent with age and use. The brass fittings exhibit a natural aged patina and minor oxidation. The red interior fabric lining is generally intact, though there are visible dark stains to the bottom of the lower drawer and some light fraying to the edges. The hinges, drawers, and latch are in working order.
