Lot 163:
Description
A vintage hand-powered breast drill manufactured by Meteor in Germany. The tool features a cast iron and steel frame with an enclosed gearbox. A side-mounted crank handle with a turned and varnished wooden grip drives the mechanism. The gearbox housing is equipped with a selector lever for two-speed operation. The tool is fitted with an adjustable three-jaw chuck at the top and a wide, curved breast plate at the base designed to allow the operator to apply pressure while drilling. Visible markings include a riveted metal label marked GERMANY in red, oriented vertically, and faint gold-coloured lettering on the gearbox casting reading METEOR.
Total length: approximately 43 cm (17 inches).
Condition report:
The item is in good vintage condition, showing characteristic signs of age and workshop use. There is visible surface oxidation, wear to the original finish, and minor paint loss on the cast iron components. The wooden handle grip remains intact with a worn patina. The geared mechanism and chuck appear to be complete and mechanically functional, though the tool has not been tested under load for performance.
