Description
This lot comprises two silver-toned decorative optical accessories intended for desk or library use. The first item is a handheld magnifying glass featuring a handle cast in the form of a detailed quill or bird’s feather with textured detailing. The circular glass lens is held within a plain metal rim attached to the feather-form handle by a reeded ferrule. The second item is a pair of folding lorgnettes featuring circular lenses on a folding bridge. These retract into a tapered handle decorated with textured geometric patterns. The lorgnette is fitted with a black textile neck cord via a suspension loop at the base of the handle and is accompanied by a green suede protective slip case. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are visible on either piece.
Magnifying glass length: approximately 15cm
Lorgnette handle length: approximately 8cm.
Condition report:
Both items are in good overall condition. The metal surfaces show minor surface wear and light tarnish consistent with age and use. The folding mechanism of the lorgnette is functional. The lenses appear clear and free from significant chips or deep scratches. The green suede case shows minor surface rubbing.
