Description

An antique copper preserving pan of circular, deep-sided form. The vessel is constructed from a heavy-gauge copper sheet with prominent horizontal concentric lines around the exterior circumference, indicating a spinning or lathe-turning production method. It is equipped with a wrought iron swing bail handle, attached to the body by two iron lugs that are riveted below the rim. The interior surface is unlined and shows two small, unidentified indentations on the upper rim which do not form legible characters. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or manufacturer stamps are present on the body or the handle.

Condition report:

The pan is in aged, used condition. The copper exterior displays a dark, naturally aged patina with patches of iridescent oxidation and numerous surface scratches. The interior shows substantial dulling, surface wear, and areas of green verdigris and corrosion consistent with age and domestic utility. The iron handle and attachment lugs show a dark oxidized finish with visible surface rust. Minor dings and small indentations are present around the rim and base.
