Lot 37:
Description
A pair of Victorian spectacles manufactured by the optical firm Dollond of London. The frames are constructed from silver-toned metal, featuring small oval glass lenses and a W shaped bridge. The straight temples terminate in circular loops, through which a black fabric cord is threaded. A small, simple metal key is attached to the cord. The lot includes a hard-bodied black leather slip case with a textured finish. The front of the case is embossed with a gilded mark that reads OPTICIAN TO HER MAJESTY, DOLLOND, 1, LUDGATE HILL, LONDON, beneath a Royal coat of arms.
Case length: 14 cm
Frame width: 11.5 cm.
Condition report:
The spectacles are in good antique condition, exhibiting a natural patina and visible oxidation on the metal frames. The leather case shows significant signs of age and wear, including surface losses, scuffing, and a partially detached or damaged top flap. The black fabric cord is frayed in several areas.
