Lot 136:
Description
A mid-to-late 20th-century Italian mantel clock in the Rococo Revival style, marketed under the brand name Imperial. The case is constructed from cast gilt metal, likely brass or spelter, with a bright gold-toned finish. The architectural form features an urn and flame-style finial at the crest, positioned above a cast female mascaron. The body is decorated with fluted columns and foliate scrollwork, with a pierced decorative panel below the dial. The clock is raised on four integral scrolled and foliate-cast feet. The circular white dial features black Roman numeral hour markers and ornate pierced scrollwork hands. The dial is marked Imperial in cursive script and MADE IN ITALY at the bottom. The clock is fitted with a German mechanical eight-day, time-and-strike movement. The rear movement plate bears the Franz Hermle and Sohn (FHS) mark, consisting of a circle with radiating rays containing the letters F, H, and S. The movement strikes on a single internal bell.
Height: 35.5 cm (approx.).
Condition report:
The case is in good cosmetic condition with minor surface wear and light oxidation consistent with age. The movement appears complete with all major components present, including the strike bell. However, the movement has not been tested for mechanical functionality or timekeeping accuracy. No winding key is provided.
