Lot 156:
Description
A carved and polished mineral specimen of banded agate, featuring high-contrast black and white concentric banding surrounding a central vug containing a druzy quartz crystalline formation. The specimen is shaped into a stylized crescent or moon form with a smooth, glossy finish. This variety of agate is frequently referred to in the trade as tuxedo agate due to its monochromatic colour palette. The piece exhibits a small area of the natural, unpolished tan-coloured matrix on one edge.
Width: 10.2 cm
Height: 7.6 cm.
Condition report:
Good overall condition with a high-gloss polish. A natural vertical fissure or internal fracture line is visible through the body of the stone. A small area of rough natural matrix is present on the lower edge. No significant chips or surface losses are evident.
