Description
A vintage mechanical horse racing game known as Escalado, manufactured by The Chad Valley Company Ltd of Harborne, England. The set comprises an assortment of painted lead horse and jockey figures in various colours, including blue, yellow, pink, black, and brown. The game mechanism includes a long green fabric track designed to be tensioned between two fixed points using the included metal screw clamps to facilitate the vibrating racing action. Also present are original paper betting slips and a hand-annotated paper tally sheet. The game is housed in its original cardboard box, featuring a period illustration on the lid of a group in evening attire playing the game. The lid is clearly marked with the title Escalado and the manufacturer’s name.
Condition report:
The original cardboard box exhibits significant age-related wear, including split and frayed edges, surface abrasions, and old tape repairs. The painted lead horse figures show varying degrees of paint loss and chipping consistent with regular play use. The metal clamps show signs of oxidation and surface patina. The green fabric track displays signs of use and folding but remains intact.
