Description

An assortment of British trade union, friendly society, and railway-related commemorative badges and lapel pins, predominantly dating from the 20th century. The collection comprises enamelled metal membership and service badges representing several organisations. Key pieces include a National Union of Railwaymen (NUR) 75-year commemorative badge in blue and red enamel, and multiple items for the Amalgamated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLE&F), including a membership badge established in 1880 and a 40-year service badge. Two National Union of Train Guards (NUTG) circular badges are present, featuring the initials TG within a floral wreath. Several items are attributed by accompanying handwritten labels to the Birmingham medalist Thomas Fattorini. The collection also includes pins for the Union of Post Workers (UPW) and the Union of Communication Workers (UCW). Friendly society items include a London & Provincial Friendly Society enamelled shield and a gold-toned badge marked FS. The lot is further complemented by three miniature locomotive pins, including two blue 0-6-0 ST tank engines named Brussels and Errol Lonsdale and one larger green tender engine. A single American historical pin for Teddy Roosevelt Service, marked for the Standard Emblem Co. Prov. R.Y., is also included.

Condition report:

The items are in good collectible condition overall. Enamel work remains largely intact across the various badges. The pieces exhibit minor surface wear, light scratches, and some oxidation to the base metals consistent with age and use. Each item is individually housed in a plastic grip-seal bag accompanied by a handwritten identification label.
